First off.. WOW, awesome video, great art direction and very well thought out.
One other other hand, propaganda has always existed around everything that became big news or successful. So Google is no exception.
There is nothing really illegal that I do online, so I don’t really worry about the file that Google has on me…So, what if it knows the brand of underwear that I like…LOL.
I guess it can be a little scary for some, but I don’t put my Credit card info in my Gmail account nor do i broadcast my tax information on my website… just have to be smart about what you let out into the black hole – Sorry, I mean the Internet. :D
Well, I know but privacy should gain more importance online since there isn’t such a thing as internet anonymity. It’s people talking, interacting, shopping and many more activities that are private.
Having a blog takes away this privateness, but it is my decision to share some parts of my (virtual) life online. MY DECISION.
Google combing through my email and storing information and my weekend plans is not really my decision, but I signed up and knew they crawl emails for “text-relevant” ads, so it is partly my decision. People forget that…
So whenever you are fill in personal information be aware of what’s happening with it. A lot of jobs have been taken from people who did crazy stuff on the internet and I think that’s one thing bloggers have to be aware of. Did you hear about the woman who wanted to be a teacher and got refused since she had a picture captured with “drunken pirate” on a halloween party gallery album on her myspace. Oh social networks…
Plus, I think it is dangerous to say “I don’t have anything to hide” – it’s been the nazi approach to propaganda and “spitzel” (german for spying)… Do you know what I mean?
So my tip for how to make this whole privacy thing work on the internet: Think twice before you hit the “submit” button…
