Where We Encounter Brands

That “Typical Friday”

Jane had this smart idea to keep track of what brands she interacts on a typical Friday. It’s one of these ideas that every modern blogger picks up and is really mad at himself/herself for not coming up with this on his/her own. In fact, this method is quite interesting to think of brands you encounter on a daily basis.

The toothbrush company? Google? The supermarket you buy that lunch from? The cigarettes you smoke? Try to think of all the brands you are encountering right now? Your computer company is quite obvious (duh! I want “duh” to be a brand, quite honestly owned by me and I’d charge 5 cents per usage and get rich from obnoxious cheerleaders) but there are way more logos that surround you that you don’t necessarily have to be aware of.

It’s a little something psychologists like to call subconsciousness and this happens to be – what a coincidence – a great way of sneaking into your mind that controls your shopping tendencies and consumer behavior. If that was the plot of a movie, I’d say something like that: “What a genius conspiracy theory!”

Creating a list of logos ordered by time (I also picked that “typical Friday”) myself was quite scary since I now see what brands obviously get a lot of attention (A load of “green” onto their bank accounts, that is in general) and it was really impressive to realize how many brands you don’t think about at all! Some I had to look up (like my tooth paste brand) or that instant soup’s brand I had (The 1 minute jump from 1409 to 1410 represents the instantness of the prep time of the meal; 1 min seemed appropriate, instant, you know). More clarifications will be taken by comments on request. Plus, I might have forgotten a brand that I am not aware of even after doing some intense “mental work.”

Scary how much “Aussagekraft” this has about myself In plain English: It gives away a lot about my persona…

Nice one Phil, every time I see a new one of these I see how bloody ugly mine is.

Question though … did YOU remember about the toilet paper?

Charming, that’s the brand I have and had in mind (but forgot first, but I did think about all the logos for more than 20 min I guess, so spontaneously no), not sure if we are using it right now. But I assume yes. :) Oh and the “a day in brands” was one hell of a intense piece of photoshopping… I underestimated it, but I can’t leave things unfinished!

Oh I forgot to mention: Google follows you in your dreams, just to add dream-relevant text ads. :P HAHAH!

Thank for your comment, too.. Actually, this idea may be converted to a “Logo Story”.. We can drop a couple of lines for each logo, e.g: “what did we do with Converse?”

“and is really mad at himself/herself for not coming up with this on his/her own.”

That was my first response when I read about it at David Airey’s. It’s a brilliant idea for sure.

But as I didn’t have much time, I stuck to a short list on DWB. Short and sweet I hope.
