That Was It, My 1st Year in University

I’m very happy to find myself in a position where I do like the course I set taking me down on university roads. Studying at WU has been one of the most surprising and interesting experience so far in life. Right after sipping down my first can of Dr Pepper. Those two experience are very much alike, even though it doesn’t seem so at first glance. It was a very sweet – so were the people -, taught me not to judge too early – the first sip usually doesn’t tell the whole story, and I realized there was something out there I haven’t given a go and thus learned to be more open.

So here’s a warm hello to new friends I made over the last year. I hope I get to spend some of the upcoming years together with you. It was interesting to see many different characters (some more enjoyable than others *cough* *cough* – Nah, I’m just kidding) mixed up in one cage fighting for a common goal. Like hamsters taking turns in running the wheel. Whether that was Barcelona or several exam weeks. We did a good job and we sure can be proud of accomplishments.

Have a great summer, peeps. Stay safe, healthy and tuned. Want to see you return to Vienna in late summer/earily fall as I saw you waving good byes yesterday. Continue reading

Pregnancy, London and Surfing

The web and especially your surfing it sort of reflect what’s on your mind, your agenda and generally going on in your life. This might be something you have not been aware of. But somehow, I realized that especially on travel matters, the web takes me to the same kind of pages. Now, a little side note to prove my point: A friend of mine who got pregnant once told me…

“You know what Phil? Ever since I learned I expected a baby, I realized how many other pregnant women are out there. All of a sudden I saw tons of moms pushing buggies. It’s like they weren’t there before”.

You may call that an unsubstantiated postulate, I know, but if you give it a thought, it might as well be true.

As to exhibit A, London has been on my list ever since I started learning English (back in middle school). Always thought they spoke in a funny manner and now that I have deeper insight into the English speaking universe I came to the conclusion that it’s true.

Concerning exhibit B, I’m not yet done with my wobbly attempt to surfing. And finding cool videos like that are more or less direct messages from my subconsciousness that may or may not be psycho-analyzed and interpreted as unfinished business.

What does A and B have in common? Well, they are both videos I found accidentally on the web whilst surfing aimlessly and had me come to the conclusion outlined above. Also both are of awesome quality and just plain great videos. Best enjoyed when following the creators recommendation: “Pump up the volume and enjoy.”

What I unfortunately can’t do is, combine the two in one trip directly. Since rainy London isn’t famous for stunning waves, unless we’re talking about tremendously vast waves caused by crashing financial institutions. Anyways, check them out…

5, 6 or 7 Continents, even 4

Well, to sort this thing out, once for all. Several times when I hang out with WU students, no matter where we are*, all sorts of topics result in a huge fight over the number of continents. Sounds ridiculous. But, I guess it shows that we don’t have a lot of Sachunterricht (that is general science class in pre-school here in Austria) at WU. Kids, get out your dusty dusty school atlases and in case you translated “atlases” to “Atlasse” (German), make sure to dig deep and look for this thing called Duden as well. Duh, because it’s “Atlanten”.

Anyyhooo, here’s the clou (that rhymes in case you were wondering)… It all depends on how you look at it.

We were all right.

We were all right, there are 4-7 continents.

We were all right, there are 4-7 continents.

* The mensa, Ride Club, Narrenkastl or that fancy restaurant “that guy made a reservation for.” (Me, that is)

Can you tell I’d rather post ridiculous blog posts in lieu of studying?

Available Soon, in Very Special Stores

Sorry for this insider post, but you know, special occaisons call for special methods. Miki – my high school sand box drinking buddy – is turning 20 today just a couple of days before I do. Instead of freaking out because of leaving my teenage years behind, I created something. Something special.

Now, I guess it’s time to cry out loud “Tuh, duhhhhh” in a very Joker kind of fashion. On this special occaison – your birthday that is –  I’d love to present this awesome gift that will soon be given to yaa, Miki… Continue reading

Sometimes I Miss High School

Sometimes, only sometimes I feel like high school wasn’t that bad after all. There were several eloquent discussions that I now have to hold on Facebook. See? It’s a good thing to get involved in status updates, because practice proofs that results have ultimate potential to be funny in the end.

Who’s attending Sandra’s Christmas [...] gig thingy? December 21. 0600 pm. At the Cenario (Tiefer Graben 21, Vienna). Unfortunately there might be a appointment collision because my auntie has a Gluehwein party that day. We’ll see.

Aushtrian Summer 2008

Subtitle: Yet another American to show around. My friend Katy from CA visited me for 7 days to discover the mountains and cities of Austria. I took off from work and toured all (nearly, cough, cough) of Aushtria (The valley talk way of pronouncing Austria). Innsbruck, Salzburg, Krems, Dürnstein (even that little town) and Vienna were on oh-so-strict and oh-so-well-outplanned schedule. So yeah, pay a visit to the gallery of Aushtrian Summer 2008… Ask Katy, there was no time for sympathy for numerous blisters.

Soon I will publish a nice tour guide for Vienna. Planning on visiting for a weekend, you should read this including dining tips and specials you shouldn’t miss…

Finally, the devise for Philipp is BACK TO WORK (for 22 more days)…

Friends And Sundays

This is not a typical Sommerloch blog post, no the twitter update attached below is a useful advice to good friendship. A thing that nobody should miss out in life. Speaking of not missing out on things in life: I recently came across with the Buried Life. A project that made a list of things they need to do before they die. Looks like this idea would bring you even closer. My favorites are #1 (Open the 6 o’clock news), #37 (Win and yell “Bingo!” at a Bingo hall) and #79 (Dance with Ellen DeGeneres) and last but not least #96 (Host a lemonade stand).

FYI: Sommerloch – silly season/summer slump: term fora certain period – mostly summer months – that lack of good and interesting headlines (due to vacation of political entities), and thus, minor stories that usually wouldn’t be picked up make headlines in media.

People that get you out of the Dr Pepper PJs you thought you'd wear all Sunday are the best and genuine friends available for you. Ever.
