Too often I wake up having an inner monologue with me, myself and I , “Wait I am way out of high school, I kind of believe I graduated (got my Matura, whatever)”. So why do I wake up thinking I have to hand in a German essay on Feminism in Austrian literature again? Right, because not doing your homework got burned into my subconsciousness as a bad bad thing to do years ago. Also, I remember having this dream that I had to somehow being forced to redo my Matura in a Matura 2.0 fashion. Boy, boy,… Who says Austrian schools aren’t efficient. They still have people wake up shaking with fear.

Haven’t had a “nightmare” about university, probably too recent for it to manifest in my gray matter.

Part 2 of The Ultimate College Guide

Options turn out be quite useful for pray being cornered by K9 German shepherd like questions about future usually starting with something like that: Well, so, now that you’re done with school, what cha gonna do my friend?

Today’s college guide will depict all my options, that are all open, not compulsory and merely serve as a collections of what’s possible from the point I’m at right now. Post-Matura-Identity crisis is the political correct term for this turning-with-the-winds (”orientational” state of mind.

As I laid out my associations with my dream job in last weeks edition of I’m On My Way, I haven’t quite told you about options apart from the optimistic and not so realistic approach. It sounds great to think that you’ll climb the ladder of success, end up as a CEO of a huge company and retire with a 1 billion compensation after 40 years of heart-attack-promoting years, right?

Picture me in a university!

Very much indeed. I’m on my way to entering college next year. Or, let’s rephrase this and say that I should be on my way to college and spend hours thinking about what I want to make out of my life. After having been pestered with questions about future and what it should have in store for me, I finally decided to utter my ideas about this topicpublicly, so that questions related with college/university are covered. This is my Ulimate Guide to Philipp’s College Decision. Hopefully I will be able to create a series out of this sujet and tell you about the whole process of finding, enrolling at and experiencing the branch of study I will have picked by August 2008.

Heuer überraschen (überraschen im guten Sinn, meiner Meinung nach) die 8. Klassen des BRG (Jahrgang 2007/08) mit einem äußerst geschmackvollen und gut durchdachten Ballabend (Motto: ARUTAM – Absolut Absurd). Ich habe mich besonders gefreut wieder alte Freunde und Lehrer anzutreffen, um mal richtig aufzuholen, was in den letzten Monaten in der Schule und im Privaten los gewesen ist.

Tja, wenn man mal was lustiges lesen muss, braucht man eigentlich nicht weit gehen. Bitte diesen Post Entry samt Comments lesen (Diskussion um Brixen und Lehrer/Schülerverhältnisse)! Soetwas nennt man Nostalgie und irgendwie kommt beim Lesen ein Gefühl der Erleichterung auf. Gut, dass man den Zettel schon hat, wo “Matura” in Großbuchstaben oben geschrieben steht. Cheers.

Speaking of nostalgy. Here is one slip and funny quote that I would love to devote to JULIA (who just made her way to St Andrews University. All the best!): “What’s it called? Schweigen der Lämmer? Well, the movie’s called >>The Not Speaking of the sheep<<”

Albinismus? – Ruft das Erinnerungen hervor? Sollte es. Ja. Dadurch dass ich ja jetzt tiefen Einblick in die Arbeitswelt habe, muss ich mit Bedauern feststellen, dass die AHS-Matura und die damit einhergehenden Ausbildung nicht — sagen wir — nicht praxisnahe genug scheint. AHS-Absolventen kennen den ausschlaggebenden Unterschied zwischen DNA und RNA, haben die Bedienung des TI drauf (wenns um time-consuming Unterhaltungsspiele geht) und haben allgemein gesagt eine allgemeine Wissensbasis auf die ganz allgemein aufgebaut werden kann.
Und da soll es Leute geben, die überzeugt behaupten, dass AHS-ler nichts draufhaben? Um diesem negativen Gedankentrend, der sich weitverbreitet im österreichischen Volk manifestiert hat, entgegenzuwirken, werde ich wann immer ich gelerntes quasi anwenden kann, aufschreien. Heute auf news.ORF.at, zum Beispiel, wurde über ein Albino-Reh berichtet. Wem da jetzt kein Licht aufgeht, dem sei nicht zu helfen. Albinismus. Biologie 7 oder 8 Klasse.

Maturanten roughly equals graduates in Austria
