Why I Spend Time On Twitter

This conversation with @stormgrass should explain why I like spending time on twitter and investing thought capacity in my conversations. It’s hilarious and is best read like a picture story.

Would You Like To Buy That Question Mark?

Free like a birdie.

Anyone out there that hasn’t heard about Twitter? Well, you will once you come back from your expedition to the other side of the moon. With Twitter gaining popularity* the management might want to consider monetizing their oh so popular service. Just a thought I really don’t want to them to hold. Even though they’d save the NYT from going bankrupt, I’d say it should be free. Free like a birdie. Tweeting in the morning, tweeting in the evening.

*Ellen Degeneres or one of her interns even made it to the platform seeking followers and immediately knew what Twitter was all about…

  • “Facebook has friends, but with Twitter you have followers. That is the kind of relationship I’m looking for, because I have plenty of friends. [...] I’m looking for Yes-Men [...] I just want people also when I lay down to fan me and feed me grapes” Is that why we feel bad for loosing a follower and even more offended if someone quits a friendship on Facebook in an act of passive aggressiveness?
  • “My hope is we tweet each other nicely.” While that is true, we need to add a generally accepted clause for raving rants. What would Twitter be without it?
  • “My goal is to get 1 million followers by tomorrow” Who isn’t a follower whore? Often heard, but never believed, “I tweet for me, not my followers”. Yeah right, just like you blog for yourself and not the people reading it.

Her It’s All A Twitter monologue is highly recommended.

You know you missed 2008 when…

Unless your hibernation cycle coincides with the last weeks of December (lucky poor you, must have missed Christmas drinking as well), you can’t help but notice that the year of 2008 has finally winded down. Generally 2008 can be filed as a year full of ups and downs…

The Closest? Acounting, it is.

“Seien Sie nicht überrascht, wenn Sie in der Praxis andere Kontenklassen vorfinden.” Just did the following thing…” http://is.gd/abv5.

(Do not be surprised if you find different classes of accounts in practice.) – my tweet on it.

Rules

  • Grab the book closest to you. Now.
  • Go to page 56.
  • Find the 5th sentence.
  • Write that sentence as your status.
  • Copy these instructions as a comment to your status. Or link to this entry providing the rules: http://is.gd/abv5.
  • Don’t go looking for your favourite book, or the coolest one you have – just grab the closest one (I even grabbed a German book, so really no being picky about the closest book).
  • Also feel free to post the results here as a comment.

Friends And Sundays

This is not a typical Sommerloch blog post, no the twitter update attached below is a useful advice to good friendship. A thing that nobody should miss out in life. Speaking of not missing out on things in life: I recently came across with the Buried Life. A project that made a list of things they need to do before they die. Looks like this idea would bring you even closer. My favorites are #1 (Open the 6 o’clock news), #37 (Win and yell “Bingo!” at a Bingo hall) and #79 (Dance with Ellen DeGeneres) and last but not least #96 (Host a lemonade stand).

FYI: Sommerloch – silly season/summer slump: term fora certain period – mostly summer months – that lack of good and interesting headlines (due to vacation of political entities), and thus, minor stories that usually wouldn’t be picked up make headlines in media.

People that get you out of the Dr Pepper PJs you thought you'd wear all Sunday are the best and genuine friends available for you. Ever.

Who’s Mr Aggregator? Socialthing vs Friendfeed vs *

“Never compare apples and oranges”, we have been preached since we waved goodbye to kindergarten. I’m afraid that I am going to do exactly the opposite of what this old saying (en-de equivalents can be found here) implies. Now that we signed up on heaps of online services like Facebook, Google Reader, Digg, Del.icio.us, Twitter and Co, we are having troubles sharing that content with people from other platforms.

The web goes cross platform with content aggregators who suck content from specific sites and gather its content in one place resulting in one huge diverse feed.Find out about apples, oranges and aggregators after the jump. Continue reading
